Viatronix: interview with President/CEO Zaffar Hayat

Company News - Viatronix
Viatronix plans to introduce a strong cardiac application that will have the same look and feel as the world-renown V3D-Colon application which is fast becoming the gold standard for CT colonography.

Viatronix to release V3D-Cardiac by the end of 2007

Q: What products, updates or innovations are you announcing or launching at RSNA?

V3D-Colon: major improvements on speed of post processing and visualization, leading to more efficient read times. Other enhancements include, but are not limited to:

1. The ability to load any two colon image series for review and comparison.

2. View of the dissected colon segment without distortion or flattening.

3. A colon CAD interface that seamlessly integrates CAD without any change in workflow (currently available commercially for the European and Canadian markets).

4. Automatic measurement of maximum diameter / volume of polyps with morphology analysis will be available by year end.

5. New 'translucent view' user-editable color schemes, and creation of reports compliant with C-RADs guidelines.

6. User adjustable field of view for 3D endoluminal view.

V3D-Cardiac: to be released by the end of 2007, pending FDA approval. The module is being developed around physician workflow and contains a number of automated tools, providing for optimized and time-efficient analysis. The V3D-Cardiac module will allow the user to perform coronary as well as functional analysis in a single software suite, seamlessly and effectively. Like the well known V3D-Colon interface the product will have a similar look and feel.

Q: What are the benefits of using your product?

V3D comes ready to use as a 'turn-key' system. No setup or extensive computer knowledge is required. V3D-Colon is the only product on the market that has been validated in multiple clinical trials and has consistently proven to have the highest sensitivity for polyp detection. All user interfaces of Viatronix products have similar layouts and are user friendly. All Viatronix software modules have received FDA 510K market clearance, are CE marked and the company is also ISO 9001 and 13485 certified. Viatronix is the first company to receive FDA 510k market clearance for colon cancer screening. Viatronix is one of the few imaging companies that offers software only solutions.

Q: What are you hoping to achieve from this year's RSNA?

We will unveil our latest module -- V3D-Cardiac. In addition, our company will present the latest enhancements to all of our existing clinical applications, including a comprehensive PACS interface.

We also plan to update the medical community at RSNA with the latest clinical trials/validations performed with the use of the Viatronix platform. Viatronix is one of the few companies offering high-end clinical solutions on a software-only basis and reducing the upfront investment in acquiring costly hardware as required by some other companies.

Q: What key messages do you have for RSNA attendees?

Viatronix plans to introduce a strong cardiac application that will have the same look and feel as the world-renown V3D-Colon application which is fast becoming the gold standard for CT colonography. The company plans to introduce additional clinical applications in 2008.

Viatronix V3D-Colon, integrated with Medicsight's ColonCAD has received the CE Mark for commercial sales in Europe. The integrated product provides additional tools, to improve the speed and efficiency of radiologists' workflow. Comparative studies have shown that primary two dimensional (2D) CTC does not have sufficient sensitivity, especially for polyp detection. Primary three dimensional (3D) CT virtual colonoscopy (VC) has been shown to compare well with OC for colorectal neoplasia screening in asymptomatic individuals [1].

'Virtual vs. optical colonoscopy in symptomatic gastroenterology out-patients: the case for virtual imaging followed by targeted diagnostic or therapeutic colonoscopy', Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, M.Bose, J.Bell, L.Jackson, P.Casey, J.Saunders, O.Epstein, Volume 26 Issue 5 Page 727-736, September 2007.

Q: How do you see the year ahead in clinical and business terms?

We believe the next few years will bring about tremendous growth within our industry. Viatronix has always been a leader in this field. The company will continue on this path and expects to add to its product suite by delivering high end, work-flow optimized clinical applications for the radiology market. With the announcement from the American College of Radiology (ACR) that it is moving ahead with major investment towards virtual colonoscopy training programs. Viatronix has teamed up with them in providing, V3D-Colon software for physician training. Indications are that after the publication of the recent clinical trials other related associations will look at virtual colonoscopy favorably, leading ultimately towards full scale reimbursement.

Company profile

Viatronix is a leading innovator and developer of 2D/3D medical imaging and diagnostic software. Our software enables physicians to interactively view vital organs and anatomical structures within the human body from data acquired by standard medical imaging equipment in minimally or non-invasive methods. The 2D digital data acquired from imaging devices is automatically post processed using the company's proprietary software techniques and provides 3D diagnostic quality images for the physician.

The company's first product, V3D-Colon for 'virtual colonoscopy' allows physicians to interactively view the colon reconstructed from a CT scan, providing visualization of the entire colon wall which includes polyps and other lesions . The company's V3D-Explorer offers a robust and user-friendly workstation platform that views and reconstructs data in 2D/3D for virtually any organ in the body. V3D-Calcium Scoring aids physicians in determining the amount of calcified plaque accumulation in the coronary arteries. V3D-Vascular is breakthrough software that permits rapid segmentation and visualization of complex arterial structures using 3D volume rendering, maximum intensity projection and simulated X-ray views. Viatronix, through application of the V3D technology, is developing additional innovative products that will be useful in early detection of other diseases, treatment planning, intervention and follow up evaluation.
