Vocera Communications new board members bring industry expertise in business and healthcare

Vocera Communications , Inc. announced the appointment of three new board members with extensive healthcare industry expertise: M. Bridget Duffy, MD, most recently, Chief Experience Officer of the Cleveland Clinic, the first senior position of its kind in the nation; Jeffrey H. Hillebrand, Chief Operating Officer of NorthShore University HealthSystem; and, John Grotting, most recently, Chief Executive Officer of Ascent Healthcare Solutions, which was acquired by Stryker Medical in December 2009.

"I am extremely excited that Dr. Duffy, Mr. Hillebrand and Mr. Grotting have agreed to join the Vocera board to help us build upon the momentum of our record 2009," said Bob Zollars, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Vocera. "Each is well known for making impressive contributions to improving the delivery of care in the healthcare industry. They bring unique skill sets that will help us deliver on our mission of delivering solutions that enable our customers to save steps, save time and save lives."

Dr. Duffy's passion for defining and creating optimal healing environments for patients has been the focus of her work throughout her 20-year career. Currently she advises healthcare organizations of all types on implementing the strategic and operational changes required to significantly improve the patient and employee experience.

Mr. Hillebrand, in addition to his role as COO of NorthShore University HealthSystem, is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and served as a Regent for five years. He is a member of the World Presidents' Organization. Mr. Hillebrand served as a Commissioner of the Certification Commission of Healthcare Information Technology (  Healthcare IT  ) and on the board of the National Association of Healthcare Information Technology.

Mr. Grotting has over 30 years of hospital and healthcare management leadership experience. Prior to joining Ascent, he served as President and CEO of Bridge Medical, a leading developer of hospital medication management systems. Prior to Bridge Medical, he held top executive positions at Allina Health System and Legacy Health System.

Dr. Duffy, Mr. Hillebrand and Mr. Grotting will replace Harsh Patel and Giovanni Colella, who are transitioning off the board.
