Marion General Hospital Selects MEDSEEK as Single Vendor Solution to Implement Enterprise-wide Physician, Patient, Consumer and Employee Portals

Company News - Who's Buying What
MEDSEEK, the leading provider of healthcare enterprise portal connectivity solutions, announced today that Marion General Hospital (MGH) selected MEDSEEK to develop and implement enterprise-wide physician, patient, consumer and employee portals over the next two years.

The interoperable portals will enable MGH to streamline physician access to data, share data among portals, accelerate clinical and administrative efficiencies across its enterprise and strengthen ties with key constituents.

“We are a leading healthcare organization, but are striving to become the provider of choice in our Indiana market area by making it as convenient as possible for physicians, consumers, patients and employees to access services and information from us,” said Emmanuel Ndow, MGH’s CIO. “After thoroughly evaluating vendors, we selected MEDSEEK because of their demonstrated ability to provide us with a four portal solution. We wanted to work with a single-vendor because it is easier and less expensive to maintain over the long term than solutions from disparate vendors.”

“Improving the patient experience is in the forefront of every hospital executive’s mind, in addition to ensuring that the investment decisions they make are sound. MEDSEEK is uniquely positioned to serve Marion General as a stepping stone to achieving both objectives in a digital environment,” said Peter Kuhn, president of MEDSEEK.

Ndow continues, “To differentiate ourselves and improve quality of care and patient safety, we have implemented electronic medical record (EMR) software at MGH. The next step is to empower physicians with the right information at the right time so they can make quick and sound treatment decisions at the bedside. We are going to offer that same ease of access to consumers, patients and employees through MEDSEEK, making us an attractive healthcare destination and employer.”

To that end, MGH is implementing the following MEDSEEK solutions:

Clinical Portal – The clinical portal will provide improved information access, simplified workflow, reduced paperwork and improved communications that will strengthen hospital-physician relationships and enhance patient-physician interaction. The portal will provide single-sign-on information access to all of the data within their MEDITECH systems; radiology and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) from Siemens Healthcare; cardiology and PACS from GE Healthcare; and monitoring systems from Spacelabs Healthcare.

Consumer Portal – Utilizing MEDSEEK’s SiteMakerE™ modules, the consumer portal will provide access to relevant and reliable health information, reminders and alerts, patient stories and e-greetings, as well as convenient online registration for classes and job postings.

Patient Portal – To meet the demands and exceed the expectations of the empowered patient, MEDSEEK will implement web solutions that provide greater visibility and access into MGH’s healthcare delivery process and system. The patient-centered approach will include services, such as secure messaging, to simplify communications and enhance the patient, physician and hospital relationship. The patient portal also will offer patients the ability to request specifics about their medical records using secure messaging to renew prescriptions online and access relevant health information and care instructions, as well as the ability to complete administrative tasks such as appointment scheduling and pre-registration.

Employee Portal – The employee portal will play a significant role in helping MGH recruit and retain employees – the hospital’s most important and costly resource. The employee portal will provide staff access to directories, policies and procedures, document sharing, benefits information and enrollment, internal job postings, employee recognition, general news and events.

Ndow explained how the clinical portal will play a key role in MGH’s physician recruitment strategy: “It’s extremely challenging to recruit young physicians. We believe that the portal, the ability to access information remotely and the commitment we have demonstrated to information technology will help us compete.”

“MEDSEEK was recently named the KLAS® Category Leader for Clinical Portals, demonstrating our ability to deliver a measurable return on investment, reduce operating expenses and enhance revenue growth. We apply the same principles across all products and services within our organization,” said Kuhn.

Ndow concludes, “MGH is also interested in participating in a regional health information exchange (HIE) in the future and MEDSEEK’s portals position us to realize that objective."
