iSOFT Completes web-PAS Project in Tonga

Company News - iSOFT
iSOFT’s web-PAS is now installed at the Vaiola Hospital in the Kingdom of Tonga iSOFT’s web-based patient administration system (web-PAS) is now installed at the Vaiola Hospital in the Kingdom of Tonga, giving clinical staff at the 200-bed hospital instant, online access to patient medical records.

Sponsored by the World Bank, the project began last year under a A$670,000 contract agreed in March 2008. The hospital now has a patient master index and modules for admissions, discharge and transfers, medical records, emergency, theatre, outpatients, billing, pathology results and referral management.

The web-PAS is enabling evidence-based decisions, improved communications between departments and point-of-care access to medical records, laboratory, ultra-sound and x-ray test results. It will help improve services to patients and the quality of billing services and collections, while also reducing errors and problems in obtaining patient details.

The Vaiola Hospital is a general medical and surgical hospital on the capital island of Nuku’alofa and is Tonga’s main hospital.

Dr Litili ‘Ofanoa, Project Director and Director of Health, was full of praise for the combined efforts of the iSOFT implementation team and hospital staff to work in partnership and deliver the successful outcomes entrenched in the Ministry’s vision.

“Although the hospital has been live with web-PAS for only a short time, the project has already realised the vision of the Ministry to provide instant access to patient information to clinicians at the focal point of service. We have made the right decision to select iSOFT and look forward to a continued successful partnership,” Dr ‘Ofanoa said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Dr Viliami Tangi, said: "All of the clinicians and staff at Vailola Hospital can now use this system to dispense with the paper we have been collecting for years and they are now providing a better service to our people. For me, it means that all I need to do now to get the information I want is to sit at my desk and I have access to all the statistical data that I need as Minister."
