Carestream Health, Inc., introduced a new remote management service platform that will help improve uptime and maintain revenue flow for radiology service providers. Carestream Remote Management Services (RMS) is now available worldwide for the company's PACS, information management solutions, CR and DR systems, and laser printers. It will be included at no charge in all warranty, support and maintenance contracts. Remote management support for Carestream Health's RIS will be added later this year.

The announcement was made at the annual conference and exhibition of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) this week.

The new service provides automated around-the-clock remote monitoring and remote desktop connectivity. It also can perform software downloads for automated patch management and some software upgrades.

This flexible software-based platform monitors performance of operating systems, databases and application software. If performance falls outside desired parameters, RMS automatically places a service call and collects error logs so that appropriate action can be taken to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Carestream RMS has already proactively detected several critical situations at trade trial sites including: low amount of cache space that can cause the PACS to fail, a misconfiguration that could have caused a system failure and low disk space for storage of imaging exams.
