Hologic, Inc. (Hologic or the Company) (NASDAQ: HOLX), a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of premium diagnostics, medical imaging systems and surgical products, with an emphasis on serving the healthcare needs of women, announced that the first large-scale observational study in a U.S. clinical practice comparing breast cancer screening with Hologic's 3D mammography technology (breast tomosynthesis) with conventional 2D mammography alone showed a significant reduction in recall rates and a sizeable increase in cancer detection, particularly invasive cancer, across all breast tissue densities. Published in the June issue of the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), the study evaluated recall, biopsy, cancer detection and invasive cancer detection rates in a community-based breast imaging practice. The study was issued online in advance of print on May 23, 2013.
