People with back pain/problems can now skip an MRI Scan, and save the MRI Cost, a study report

MRI machine

In pain clinics, steroid shots are quite common for patients with back-pain; about the MRI cost back scans, with contrast-agent – the rates are high; in care-units, physicians routinely order an MRI scan, prior the therapy.

An MRI scanner uses powerful magnets for more detailed images, for internal anatomy and physiology; and therefore the MRI machine costs are high; would vary from one supplier to the other, per different product attributes; and, similarly for the procedures, about MRI cost brain scans, back, knee, or more – it would vary for, with and without contrast-enhanced procedures.

And, if you go through world-wide statistics, you would realize, be it MRI scan cost in US, and/or other countries, the figures may not be that pocket-friendly, for the patients; Dr. Steven Cohen (Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) says, $1,500 each for the scans is not justified, and not necessary when the imaging offers a little chance to avoid a procedure (citing steroid injections from the doctors for back-pain patients), lessen complexities, or ameliorate outcomes.

Of the study results (led by Dr. Steven Cohen), the research team found that about 132 patients that have had an MRI before were being given steroid injections, by doctors, without even clarifying the test-results.

He added further that, by skipping the procedure (in advance), it could save patients significant MRI cost, and time; please refer the Archives of Internal Medicine, for more studies and observations of Dr. Steven Cohen in patients with sciatica and other.

We understand, the higher MRI cost for back, knee or brain scan definitely is a matter of concern for many out there; but then, the non-invasive imaging approach is safer than other imaging methods (X-ray, CT etc.) that use ionizing radiation.

It is like, ‘too-much’ of unneeded examinations (any) always add-up to medical bills, and that should be avoided, by the doctors.

So, be it MRI cost knee, brain, back or other: for the procedures, or information about new and refurbished equipment providers, MRI Machine Costs - people of the healthcare community can always be of good help, and you can join the MedicExchange community, for more knowledge and information.

The tremendous scope the non-invasive MRI technology has, is not new to any; let us take a quick peek, again, but then, for more detailed versions, in the coming year!

MRI Scanner

For people in the healthcare sector, the term MRI Scans or MRI Scanning (Magnetic Resonance Imaging scan) is not at all new; when the healthcare sector is growing like anything, with new booming technologies, for care and treatment, MRI screening definitely is preferred more than others of the slot (CT, X-Ray), to keep patients away from ionizing radiation effects.

And then, those who joined late, about the technology (during MRI screening), nuclear magnetic resonance/reverberations are being used to create two-dimensional/three-dimensional proton-density images, to visualize internal body structures, viz. muscles, bones, organs etc.

Well, we all know the power of magnet, and then superconducting magnets in MRI scanners are quite common, for various medical applications; gone are the days, when without knowing the main cause of diseases in people, the treatments were used to be given, and the results then were increased death rate; but, with the emerging need of the market, and with the upsurge of imaging technology, various medical imaging approaches in Radiology definitely have given a sign of hope for the patients, for early detection of disorders/diseases that patients are being affected with.

Be it human anatomy, or physiology, the non-invasive MRI scanning definitely helps; whether an MRI scan head/brain, knee, or MRI scan breast – everything is safe with/for a patient, with ‘no-ionizing’ radiations, involved.

Yes, be it for a complex human brain anatomy, ultra-high field MRI scan is always there, for subtle brain details; MRI scan brain – is common for patients with the following – dizziness, hearing loss, headaches etc.

And then, about MRI scan knee – for knee pain/osteoarthritis, joint injuries, and more; but, then, prior any MRI scan, you definitely will be checked for electronic devices/implants and other ferromagnetic devices, due to the super-conducting magnets, and associated electronic-magnetic fields.

The topic about magnetic resonance imaging MRI Scan Technology can never end, as we know well about the scope the domain has, in the healthcare sector.

So, stay tuned for more on MRI scans, and everything related with the magnetic resonance imaging technology!

Every company/business entity today has a website (how big or small they are), which they use to market their products and services; being in the healthcare sector, the need of health organizations is nothing different, of – Medical Websites Design!

Healthcare website

Yes, a website speaks more than N number of marketing brochures and materials; how big or small the organization is – they can easily reach their customers/clients, if have web-presence.

For this and that (products, or services) – most of us depend on Internet, as an easy search in Google or other search engine will yield us ‘infinite’ results in a go! Nobody has time to see-through books and magazines to find things out, as ‘time is precious’ for everybody; to find a location in any physical location can be difficult than finding it over the web-space, and you will agree to it!

Have you ever thought, why hospitals that have professional websites witness more patients than others? Well, it is simple – patients can communicate directly with them (online) for inquiries, book appointments, do this and that (endless benefits, for both…); books and magazines do not involve interactive audio-visuals, but people usually (prefer, and) get attracted to that, at the first place. It is like they can read a book, but can communicate with a person on the other side of the website.

Images/pictures and videos speak more than plain words, and perhaps this is one of the reasons why people get bored surfing along pamphlets and brochures that any company uses to woo them, for products or services.

Yes, a website is a great medium that hospitals/health organizations can use to directly communicate/interact with their patients, on a lot of things – it is a great medium for easy communication, and information exchange; through audio-video medium, doctors can educate their patients on a lot of medical issues the society is dealing with, and other that the patients (are interested, and) could benefit from.

If you are a prime decision maker in a hospital, and looking for companies to redesign/develop your old website (or have a new web project for them to start on), then rest assured; whether a logo, web-design/development, patient portal (EMR integration), flash animation, search engine optimization, or anything related – you will have answer to all your problems, at an instant.

Stay connected with MedicExchange for companies for web design and development services!

With so many industrial brands of healthcare products and supplies (around) yelling out to you “I AM THE BEST, PICK ME UP” – what will you do, or go after?

Diagnostic Imaging Equipment

GE, Philips Healthcare, Toshiba are some of the big names we identify ‘quality’ with; but, we are sorry – does nobody exist other than these that match caliber of these companies? Well, the answer is ‘yes’, there are many – it is just, we never cared to find it out!

It is like, not everybody can afford a five-star hotel; but, what if without sacrificing the standard of quality, you get something cheaper? Yes, what about a three-star hotel, would that do?

You got us right! There are N number of companies available in the sector that are equally talented, and provide ‘highest-quality’ products; lack of proper medical equipment, if had started showing on your productivity, then try to change direction a wee bit, and go for ALTERNATIVES!

New and branded products may not fit the budget of all, and we understand it well; for them, like we said (a 3-star hotel), they should decide for an equivalent product brand from other company, cheaper in price and good in quality (at par)!

Do not worry, we know you are skilled at using ‘any’ medical equipment that you have (in hand), irrespective of its condition; so, we do not see, why a used/refurbished equipment would stop you ever perform nicely…(?)!

Rash decisions (buying) will lead you nowhere; be calm, seek for an expert consultant – if you do not know, what to go after! MedicExchange is right here for any such, and more, to help you find the right kind of supplier/company for products you want to restructure your care unit, with.

So, be confident about your skills/abilities while working with refurbished medical equipment; keep your operating cost under control, for better things in business!

For details about various (healthcare) equipment manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and distributors, and what not that you think of – you can always rely on MedicExchange! Stay connected…!

Is your medical office (that run on papers/physical files) well prepared for any healthcare disaster? God forbid, but prevention is always better than cure! What do you think, wise man? Thought about “Healthcare Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery” solutions, any time?

Paper Medical Records

Well, there is nothing secure or guaranteed; disasters strike without warning, and it is like we have to remain always prepared to tackle any such – no matter what sort of, it could be.

Risk is involved in every other business; when you work with papers, then your chances of getting affected is more than other; yes, any man-made (accidental fire) is enough to bring your healthcare business down, to ASHES (ZERO), from where you had started long back!

It is a fact; we are not against papers, and even understand – old habits die hard; new technology and higher-cost of software are some of the things that hinder many in going for an EMR system.

Everything has two sides: good and bad! You may have own versions stating – “paper files/charts are easy to work with and maintain”, but think again; during emergency, could you be able to send any paper-file/records to remote location for expert-consultation, or real-time information exchange/communication (?). Well, no! You may promptly say without a blink that – you would fax it every-time, but how feasible that is?

It is not easy to search, manage or transport/transfer ‘a lot of paper’, during emergency, as that takes time.

On the other, an electronic medical record cuts down this problem here – as you can easily send and receive just any record, at any time you feel like for real-time data communication and information exchange, to better care and delivery process.

It has been found that people that adopted EMR, or other practice management systems fared well than their competitors that did not care for one!

So – where do you stand in competition, today? If you are confused, and/or thinking about “what sort of EMR systems are suitable for my business (?)”, then we say – “a helping hand is not far away”! MedicExchange is here to help you make selection on right kind of EMR system from right kind of vendor you are in search of.

New developments are on, every time in the healthcare sector (hope nobody is sleeping there) – and ‘mobile’ health products remind us of some; yes, heavy medical equipment (diagnostic imaging) perhaps can never go direct to any patient, but a mobile device can, not because it has legs! (Grin)

Mobile health products

The demand of portable medical devices (or easy to carry in pocket tech-gadgets) has constantly increased; everything is time-bound, if we look around the healthcare scenario; timely care and treatment is what every patient asks for, and if they are denied one due to any of the reasons (whatsoever), we know – this definitely will end in bad health outcome: chances are, patients may die, if not addressed on time!

Heavy medical equipment (once installed) are not easy to be moved along, instantly, as it does take time – right? Portable medical equipment play vital role, in such conditions, as these can be easily carried/taken along to the place, where the patient is located, for diagnosis and therapy.

The trend is changing for the better, everywhere, it seems; to talk about – patient monitoring devices (for vital signs, and other related), care providers can have ‘wearable monitors’ for patients, to keep a tab on them, constantly…; the wireless network help them stay alert of patients, during an emergency.

The conventional bed-side monitoring devices require patient to be always at bed, but wearable monitors cut down that requirement, by all means. It is like patients can wear it around, and no matter where they are within the hospital – their vital signs will get monitored by.

Yes, there is good scope for market players in this segment of mobile healthcare products that can be easily carried along, for this and that; smartphones, and other mobile gadgets have taken over various imaging modalities (…have they? Yes!)

Pocket ultrasound (iPhone ultrasound application for fetal monitoring), iPhone blood pressure cuff and other show out how the technology has got into healthcare, to add more value to care and delivery process! (Vide: Mobile Medical Apps)

U.S. Food and Drug Administration is constantly keeping a close check on all these devices, and approving only those that stick with their regulations and policies.

It is like, the more we get to communicate, the more we learn and gain things from!

Healthcare Conferences

Healthcare sector is not different, as you may get to find N number of seminars, conventions going on, at various parts of the globe (every now and then); you may wonder, what these seminars could do to your business (healthcare), and why you have to be there, with others?

Well, it is all about ‘getting noticed’ by right kind of people; yes, every business unit demands ‘right attention’ from people that could mean them a lot!

Meetings, conventions go every now and then, some at your nearby locality, and some at distant location; but, you can never reach every other place, to witness the event.

Healthcare sector is growing at a fast pace (we are good at saying this – feels good, ha!), and everybody wants to grow; you would think – how you will get to grow with a lot of competitors around?

Well, this is where – “meetings/conventions” play vital role for your business; these are places that expose you to the global market; you may have a website with highest-quality products on offer, but what if people do not know about you or your business, by any means(?)!

Yes, this happens – when you meet right kind of people from the same industry, and related, this gives you the opportunity to speak out to the world that “WE EXIST, AND HAVE THIS TO OFFER YOU…! You will be noted by many; direct ‘one-on-one’ interaction with your clients/customers will let you speak out your mind, to them; they will understand you better…!

To have a website is good, to get noted by; if you are involved in promotional activities (along with it) for your business – it is better; but conferences allow you a place for direct interaction/communication with common/end-users (of your product/service), as you will get to know what exactly they expect from you; yes, direct opinion from them will help you improve better, and/to bring changes to anything you lacked!

Do not miss any EVENT (as that can possibly transform your business/life for the better), from now on! Keep track of all upcoming events in your locality/region, and otherwise, with MedicExchange – to mark your presence felt by right kind of people!

“MARK YOUR CALENDAR, WITH US…WITHOUT A MISS!”

So doctor, how do you manage N number of patients, daily? Do you keep them waiting, as usual, or are quick with all of them?

Medical Practice Management

Well, we have no doubts about your skills as a doctor, but are you equipped with the right kind of system (technology) to rev up your daily practice? Too much of queries is not a good thing – and yes, we know it!

We heard you manage all your patients on ‘paper’ – you record patient encounters on paper, prescribe them on paper, do this and that on paper! If this is true, then how efficient/productive you are in comparison to others that use electronic health records, or practice management system?

Yes, it is a fact – they are more productive and successful than you are; you may wonder why, and the reason is – they were “FLEXIBLE”! Yes, they changed with time, and somebody who can adapt with situation/time can only survive…! (e.g. chameleon changes the skin color, to adapt with the situation/place)

This is a fast-paced life, and we all have to constantly run, to retain the place where we are now, as many are prepared to overpower us; yes, competition is stiff in the healthcare sector, just like any other business, and if you are not equipped with right kind of stuffs and things, then you will be thrown out of the game!

We are living in 21st century, and this is IT (information technology) era that we are in; if you still manage your office on paper (yawn!), then where do you see yourself fit in, with others?

New is always ‘intriguing’, and we understand – cost is even a huge concern you have that is hampering you to take a jump on electronic medical records; but, do not worry, o’ good human being, as – some top-rated companies/vendors out there will help you in everything for EMR migration, you were apprehensive about.

Thus, find an edge over others; mark you niche, and get to see your healthcare business grow like ever…the way you wanted it to!

Stay connected with MedicExchange for EMR systems, and other practice management software, to benefit on.

…where non-enhanced CT missed to confidently characterize many of the cancerous tumors, cost-effective CEUS (contrast-enhanced ultrasound scan) came out as a winner, for real-time patient diagnoses at the bedside: a research study!

(Courtesy: Dr. Stephanie Wilson, Professor of Radiology at the University of Calgary, and Practicing Radiologist at Foothills Medical Center in Calgary)

“Lower cost (than other imaging modalities), lack of ionizing radiation, diagnostic precision are some of the attributes that make CEUS distinct…!”

Contrast-enhanced sonography_hemangioma

Patients with abdominal cancer can breathe a sigh of relief, as contrast-enhanced ultrasound scan (CEUS), with no high-energy radiation (being involved) is here to help them getting diagnosed through it.

Yes, CEUS is cost effective than other imaging modalities for early cancer detection, as the technology does not involve ionizing radiation, and is safe on patients; the contrast agent involved in CEUS gets expelled out of the body, few minutes after the examination, and is safe on kidney patients, as well.

Research authors believe, this tool will replace some of computed tomography procedures, allowing radiologists to precisely diagnose cancer/tumor in patients, without exposing them to harmful radiation.

More and more patients are exposed every now and then to ionizing radiation, through varied examinations (radiology/nuclear medicine), where exposure to these increase their lifetime risk of cancer.

Contrast agents are not recommended for kidney patients, as they can not tolerate it; non-enhanced CT (without contrast agents) for such patients would not yield desired results that the technology is famed of providing ‘with contrast agents’.

CT scan without contrast agents may miss to provide enough (coveted) results in detection of cancerous tumors, especially of kidney/liver – for clearly-defined diagnosis, and this was even validated by research authors through various examination results of patients.

One of the patients with severe flank pain (high creatinine) that could not endure CT contrast agent had to undergo the non-enhanced process/technique, which showed “spontaneous retroperitoneal hematoma”; on the other, CEUS demonstrated the patient with – “aggressive infiltrative kidney cancer”.

Similarly, there were many cases (examinations), where non-enhanced CT failed to diagnose patients properly, but every time CEUS did it nicely…!

The research author (Dr. Wilson) said, CEUS is an excellent tool for variety of cancers – benign and malignant: liver, bladder, kidney, spleen, bowel etc.!

CEUS is secure and cost-effective option than other imaging modalities, for equivalent results, if not beyond…; the technology is approved for specific types of cardiac imaging in the United States; but is commonly used for various disorders (inclusive of cancer/tumor) in some of these countries, viz. Asia, Brazil, Canada, Europe etc.!

For more details about CEUS, and other blogs and stories – stay connected with MedicExchange!
